Gosh, Why Is Our Hair So Damn Important?

I am fretting….   seriously seriously thinking about a boy cut.   Ever do that?

I hate my hair.   And I am a cutter.   Someone told me that once, and I’ve used the term ever since.   If you cut your own hair, you are ‘a cutter’.

I’ve never been able to wear long hair – I have a thin face and any length around it just drags it down.  So I’ve resorted to shorter styles,  typically the same darn thing for the last how many years….

Lately I’ve been eyeing people.  A woman at church that has a style like this -

another that looks like this-

My recent client that had an adorable cut like this, but my sis says I’d need a serious round of botox to pull it off! (exposed forehead and all)

gads… I don’t know.   When I was a kid my mom never let us have long hair.  I’m sure its because she just didn’t want to deal with the BS…. and I can relate – my daughters hair is longer and it is like pulling teeth sometimes, trying to get her to take care of it.     I’ve held off getting the ‘mom’ cut  – you know, the ‘I’m an older woman’ and can’t wear my hair hanging around my face anymore…..  But now I’m wondering just ‘what’ I’m waiting for’?   I’m 45 for geeze sakes!  Maybe it’s okey to veer to the edge of Short Hair…   it grows back right?

No clue how daring I will be.  I have an appointment in two days, with a new hairdresser, Arlene at Being Salon.    It is ALL in her hands. New cut… .New color….     God help her!   ( I so wish my face looked like these photos!)

All I know is,   I am really beotchy when I have a bad hair day.  So if you suddenly sense this in my posts, you will know it is NOT going well in the hair department!

  1. Oh you are cracking me up!!!!!!!!!! I don’t know what your face looks like… so hard for me to picture it on you. Post a before pic of yourself!!!! My mom has a sassy haircut that I have always adored (she is young…. 57). I always wish I was brave enough to go short. But someone once told me my face was too round for short hair. UG! Why do I listen to people. Go for it. Your personality is spicy enough to pull it off!!!!

    • I’ll have to remember to take a before today…. My hair is relatively short, but I’ve never let go of the ‘fluff’ factor – you know, the long enough layers around the top and back that can be velcro rollered and ratted out a bit. I’ve gone short before and will love it, for about a day…. but then I wish for the fluff again…..

  2. Oooohhh, Patty….GO FOR the second look. Love the longer, off to the side, assymetrical look. I could soooo see it on you! Very sexy and lots of style. You are petite and could definitely pull it off.

  3. okey Kathleen….. I’m leaning toward door number 2… You, my friend, have a similar style and I love your style and sass…. I go under the knife (eh hem, I mean scissors) at noon – if you don’t hear back from me you will know it’s bad!

    • Just tell her you want it super “piecey” around the face. I know it’s hard changing hair styles, but just think how much time you’ll shave…ooopps BAD choice of words,Lol!… off your morning routine. Seriously,it is summer and you deserve to have that extra time to yourself instead of spending it in the bathroom. I bet ALL you’ll need is your fingers, a quick blow dry and some product to keep it where you want it!
      YOU WILL LOOK FABULISCIOUS!!!!!

  4. Yeah…well? We’re waiting!! How’d it turn out? I didn’t see this post until today….but I liked both #1 and #2! Keep us posted!

  5. You know, hair is pretty important. A bad haircut will make someone look at you and think you are older than you are, or younger (not too bad), or it may just be one of those cuts that you have to wear a hat all the time! I was searching around for a Web Design Company to build my website, when I came across this great salon site that was created by this company in the past. I think the best way to find a salon that knows what they are doing is by the look of their website, and they have enough information and a portfolio of styles they have done to clients.

  7. I like the first one. Actually, I’m donating my hair in February, and I found your blog by googling “short hair cut” I’m thinking of doing it. Have you decided yet? I’m actually a cutter too… it’s hard to tell, but only my desire to donate the hair keeps me from cutting often. Especially when I have a few bad hair days – I just want to cut it all off!

My concern is growing it back out. I hate those in-between stages.

    • Wow, good for you donating your hair! I’ve never had enough hair to consider that – I’ve been cutting really bad lately… I did go short – soon after this post – and she changed me to a browner/chestnut/hints of red color. It was striking, made my eyes pop – and skin look fresh… but then that color started to wash out… and it went a bit brassy (think orange… at least I did) – so I found it more expensive to keep up, because I was running back in for a ‘semipermanent’ color touchup… That won’t work for me – I need something low maintenance…..I went back a few more times, but summer was over, my skin was blah, and I hated the color I was getting (the red thing)

So…… in the mean time, my good friend, a hair designer, fixed my color (back to brown w/no red tones) and threw in a few lighter highlights (I was feeling bare naked)- and then I’ve been cutting when it gets too cumbersome, all while trying to figure out just what it is I want. Honestly? I really prefer when there is a little more hair on my head to play with, than when it was really short…….
