Caromal Colours Samplers Against Samplers…

Another photo folder to clean out – this one housed a number of samplers I created for customers…  sometimes there are many combos to create, like an assembly line

These tile, formica and paint samples were sent to me in the mail…  the owner was curious to what they looked like against various combos.  Here is the bayberry textured basecoat,  with lighter toner on the top section, and heavier toner on the bottom

and here is the Cobblestone, sanded back to the original cabinet color (cherry) and then toned

or Mustard/chipping creme/Peppercorn sanded back then toned -

Chocolate, sanded back to light wood, then toned

Pumpkin/chipping creme/Parchment, sanded back then toned.   I like this one with everything…

Paprika/chipping creme/Parchment, sanded and toned – like this one too…

How about Pumpkin/chipping creme/Peppercorn, sanded back and toned?

When you have projects you are contemplating, but are unsure which finish or color to choose, I highly suggest working up samplers, and laying them out and around your space.  If you’re anything like me, I need the visual.   Get some paint and create your own – you can order the colors in 8 ounce samplers,  or order actual finished 3 inch wood samples  – we’ll custom create them here for you – just tell us what colors/texture/distressing level and we’ll do it for you.

Comparing Caromal Colours Paprika Over Pumpkin And Peppercorn…

I promised Jeannette I’d whoop up a sampler comparison -

Patti,

I have Caromal Paprika,Peppercorn,Pumpkin, and Parchment as well as toner and chip cream. I would like to do a cabinet with the dominate color being Paprika Is there a picture of Paprika over Pumpkin and Paprika over Black that I can see on your site?   I plan to use the toner.  Thank you,  Jeannette

Here we go:

With each base color (Peppercorn textured basecoat on left,  Pumpkin textured basecoat on right)  I stippled/smooshed part  and brushed smoother the other part.   When dry I brushed on a coat of Chipping Creme.  When that dried I brushed a topcoat of Paprika, then sanded with 80-120 grit paper to reveal each under color.  Notice how it powders out and looks dull and lifeless

The top 1/2 of each sample will get Toner brushed on it

then the other 1/2 will get a brushed coat of Tea Stain Glaze.   (just to show a variation)

the glazes  are more subtle than the Toner – they can warm up a colored paint finish, but won’t offer the richness that the Toner adds

Brushed on, now wipe off

Wipe back with a dry rag

and you get

Darn flash… doesn’t help that it’s still wet

Now the Paprika over Peppercorn is on top, and Paprika over Pumpkin is on the bottom.  Notice how the left side of the sample is lighter?  That’s the Tea Glaze side

Jackie Paints Her Formica Pub Tables With Caromal Colours And Bronze…

Several of these -

A layer of textured basecoat Peppercorn first,  stippled a bit…  then a stencil applied with more Peppercorn -

Black dries, and table gets dry brushed with metallic statuary bronze.  When the bronze dried, Jackie sanded back to the black texture.  Lastly, brush on Toner and wipe back -

A pretty cool and easy finish, don’t you think?

When that project was done she emailed me another photo -wall art that she created for her library, using left over products -  love her!

A Fireplace Gets A Double Dose Of Caromal Colours…

I recently shared this post, Painting Trim and Fireplace Mantels,  which included a peak at my customer Nicole’s transformed mantel

Last week she stopped by the store and wanted to know how to change the tile surround -she wanted something more dramatic .

We worked up a sample:   Caromal textured basecoat Peppercorn,  first layer whizz rolled,   then second layer a mix of Peppercorn and Chocolate, both rolled on randomly, at the same time.   Toner brushed on and wiped off, then a poly for durability-

Nicole is the type that wants it done yesterday :)   As the sample was drying, we were ringing up her order.   That afternoon she went home and started!

The finished project – changed the whole look of her fireplace

She loves the leathery texture you can achieve from stippling on the texture basecoat, but told me she prefers stippling with a chip brush, not with the texture roller. She said the roller kept wanting to roll flat…

I think that might be from pushing too firm on the roller  – if you keep a light hand and just roll that painty whizz roller around, randomly, then re-dip and roll some more, it can create a great light texture, quick and easy…

How ever she did it, it worked!  The dark sets off the mantel better, don’t you think?
