A Green Apple Accent Table- Caromal Colours Bayberry

I have been wanting to use this Caromal Colours distressed paint combination on something –

Caromal Colours Bayberry over Paprika

so I decided to use it on this accent table my mom gave me –

I started by painting it with a layer of Caromal Colours Textured Basecoat color Paprika-

When that dried, I brushed on a layer of Caromal Colours Chipping Creme-

Then I had an idea…..

I wonder if it will crackle?

So I got out my Modern Masters Crackle Base and brushed it on the top –

When that set  up, I brushed on the Caromal Colours Textured Basecoat Bayberry color paint –

I waited…. and waited….and waited, and it did not crackle.  Nothing.  I was bummed.   And having that crackle size under the Bayberry layer kindof messed up my quick and easy ‘distressing/chipping’… I had to really apply the pressure to the palm sander to reveal any of the Paprika basecoat.  Thank goodness I only used it on the top –

I painted the rest of the piece with the Bayberry,  and then toned the top using the Caromal Colours Toner-

When the Bayberry dried, I palm sanded to reveal the Paprika basecoat.   Notice the big difference in color of the Bayberry untoned vs. Bayberry toned-

I brushed Toner on everything and wiped it off-

Now I have to find the perfect place for it.  As of right now, it’s the new home for the kitty toys.   Bruno is checking it out-

  1. NICE JOB! I need to try something with Paprika. Cute table…and the kitty cats can serve themselves…hehe! The trick will be getting them to put their toys BACK!

OOHh nice! What color was the toner? An Umber? That gave it a really nice overall tone. Great job!

    • yes, the toner is kindof the color of burnt umber – it warms the colors up nicely, and you can vary how much you leave on… I like that bayberry color with more toner.
