Here Comes 2011…

May all these fill your New Year …

God Bless You all!

Oak Cabinets Painted And Distressed Black Via Caromal Colours

This year working right into the week of Christmas left me scrambling to clean, decorate, shop, wrap – you know,  all the  hulabalo0 – those last couple days before.

When we were cleaning the lower level I popped into the bathroom and

Oh crap….  didn’t like that look.  Okey, I could explain to my family (we were hosting Christmas this year) that this was an experimental cabinet red0 (see this post for the project),  but then it occurred to me that this half done look wasn’t going to fly come next month when we put the house on the market…

So I stopped in my cleaning tracks and whipped out the cabinet.  You can all relate to that ‘being sidetracked‘ moment right? 🙂

These cherry stained oak cabinets covered in just one  chip-brushed coat of Caromal Colours Textured Basecoat (color Peppercorn), and I only used about 1/3 of the quart – but I didn’t do the inside door panels and I didn’t do the side of the cabinet next to the toilet…

After I sanded to distress, I brushed on the Toner and wiped it off, then topcoated with the Min-wax wipe on poly….

One thing down, twenty-kajillion to go!

Caromal Colours are not carried in big stores.  There are a handful of small country/ home furnishing stores through the US  that may carry a limited selection,  but if you purchase in a store that owner will receive credit not me.    If this post was informative and helpful in your ‘how-to’ searches, a simple, but huge, way to thank me  is this:   if you decide to use these products,  use my code, PattyH in the coupon code area. This code is needed in order for me to receive credit for the order,  if you forget to use it I lose. You don’t pay more by using my code – and if you order online you won’t pay tax (outside PA).

Holidays Fly In And Out But Family Is Forever…

Is it because I’m getting older that the days seem to fly by?  When I was a kid it took for E V E R  for Christmas morning to arrive…  now, the day after Thanksgiving makes me nervous, knowing Christmas will be here in a snap.  Even though this last month was chaotic, I found by cutting out certain stressors – like mailing Christmas cards and fancily trimming my foyer stairway with lights and bows- it made it easier to feel in control and at ease by Christmas eve.

My mom and dad came early on the 24th.  She loves to cook  (thank you Lord!) and she and my sis Diane planned a great home made lasagna dinner for us all.   We attended early church service together, to celebrate the CHRIST child, then came back to enjoy dinner, and a ‘family sleepover’-

We stayed up late, enjoying each others company… my sister and her hubby/daughter haven’t been back at Christmas for several years – they’ve been in China for 5 yrs on work assignment, and recently signed on for another 3 years…

Christmas morn, Little Jenna, only 5, was up at 5am,  I’d forgotten what it was like when my now teens were that age….

Suffice to say I needed a good couple cups of coffee before I could crack a smile….   Even Bella got a surprise from Santa 🙂

Later Christmas Day the rest of our family arrived.  How can that feeling be described –  when your WHOLE family is together and all is just right?

The comfort,  the fun, the ease,  the enjoyment,  the love … it’s just THERE.  Effortless….

and the fun and loving grows as the kids get older… they become ‘fun partners’  as well 🙂

Me and my nephew Brian –

Looking at my photos, I can’t believe how grown up my kids look –  Jules (3rd position)

and Nick….

Sigh, Bella hasn’t stopped growing either…

Me and my dad…

and my WHOLE family-  my mom, dad, sister, sister and brother…. we are all intact, how awesome is that?

My eldest sister couldn’t have said it better,

…and mom and dad, well, having you present as our matriarchs and role models really causes me to cherish our times together as these years tick by. Today’s homily was all about The Holy Family and while we’re not the quite the holiest of family’s, we sure know how to BE family for each other.

Friends can come and go,  but family is always there for you… regardless of the differences, or the distance between…

You don’t choose your family.  They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.  ~Desmond Tutu

When you look at your life, the greatest happinesses are family happinesses.  ~Joyce Brother

I love my family!

A Merry Pre-Christmas…

I’ve come to the realization that I can’t do it all – I envy bloggers that can keep up daily…. I want to, really bad, but I am finding no time left in my recent days…

But it feels wrong just leaving my beloved friend abandoned, so I’m popping  in to say

Peace, Love, Joy

Blessings to you and your family,  may this Christmas holiday be a joyful one, spent with loved ones, creating memories that will never be forgotten-

I’ll be back in awhile, in the mean time,  I really don’t want to miss the good thats happening around me –

Wishing you all the Merriest of Christmas’s –   God Bless Us All!
