I Promised Someone The Caromal Painted Laminate Floor Update…

So here we go….

Start with a C L E A N  surface… especially if its a bathroom floor (yuk!).

My surface (not by choice) was a laminate  I inherited when I leased this office space –

I used this WHIZ roller  aka Textured Roller

and rolled on 2 coats of the Caromal Colours Textured Basecoat Peppercorn cut with a little bit of Parchment to soften the blackness.  This photo shows me applying layer two, a couple hours after layer one –

You’ll notice I didn’t tape the walls – my plan is to finish not only the floor but also the trimwork and walls, so I just went for it…

IIICK!  Toilet!   Notice I didn’t tape around that either  (figured hubby can razor blade it when its good and dry)

WARNING :  Do NOT try my sloppy ways at home – tape EVERYTHING!

Like my ‘foam plate’ tray?  I hate using paint trays – I feel like I waste my paint in them – my roller fits right in the mouth of the jar, then I offload it on the plate…

Rolling the last bit –

Base done –

I shot a variety of Krylon Webbing veins across the surface,  gold, white and silver, and then took some Parchment Textured Basecoat, cut it with alot of water (to create a wash) and sponge smooshed the cloudy paint water around the floor in a random fashion,  You could use a damp rag, dab the paint wash, and rag smooth it on the surface as well –

I know, scary right?   Don’t worry,   it all works out in the end – THATS the attitude you need to have –

The wash smooshing helps give dimension to the dark floor surface, and it makes the veins appear that they are deeper into the surface-

Then I brushed on the Caromal Toner and wiped it off.   I was bummed that it took most of my cloudiness away –

so I added more clouding, this time with a little more concentration of the Parchment paint  –

Then over that I used the Toner again (not before shooting a couple more veins again 🙂 )

Much better than the before

I rolled on a full strength Min wax oil based poly (not wipe on) for protection.  I still need to roll another coat on   –

In the mean time, I’ve painted the trim black, and dry brushed some Champagne metallic paint over top.  Now I need to find time to finish the walls!
