Silver Leafed Dome,Crown and Metallics For A Dream Client…

Starting point – lovely foyer entry, and a long hallway leading into a fabulous city living space

Great art, waiting to be showcased…

The transformation begins…

All the walls will receive a custom silver metallic base –

The foyer crown, door and dome are base painted black

Size was applied to the trim work so the leaf would adhere…

Working over head leaves you with a serious neck ache!

That leaf goes E V E R Y W H E R E… I think the client was glad when we got to this point, and we could do a final sweep to get those little fly-aways all cleaned up…

Closer up – still needs to be antiqued…  in this picture you can see the white trim  around the entrance door- we decided that needed to go black as well …

Here the silver leafing is complete, and the walls are starting to get their metallic base –

door trim black

The foyer and hallway walls all received two coats of the metallic base – and then we left it alone, since the color and look was a perfect backdrop for the art

Not so easy to see here, but I also tweeked the chandelier finish which originally was like a soap stone…

Isn’t this just glamorous?

The kitchen and main living area had the custom silver as its basecoat, and then a soft glaze and textural finish over top to warm it up

This was one job I was sad to have come to an end –  I miss the owner, and the big fat cat and the dark slinky cat and the sassy-frass-fraidy-cat cat!

  1. What products and technique do you use for the silver metallic wall treatment? I use modern masters and always have lap lines. Didn’t notice any in your pics. How do you do it? Would love step by step help on this one.
    Thanks!

    • i use modern masters as well – love their paints – i roll it on w/a whizz roller and roll completely random – never up and down – and seriously, i work with the weinie size roller – even on big walls – it helps me get a softer look i think…random roll, X’s, limp wrist, eventually cover whole wall. .you kindof create a finish JUST w/that paint the way your rolling… but its kinda like a poor mans finish – couldnt really stand on its own – so if you go for metallic only, you need to do 2 coats , same way, just random over your random, whooop whoop whiz whiz… different than your first pass but same… the finish will be loveish… in the other rooms, i did one pass of the metallic, then 2nd was using mastercreme tinted with dark brown, and then palette art gold tinted to a richer gold, and palette art silver tinted to a richer silver… i whizzed all that on wet into wet into wet, and then softened it with brushes and a dry roller…

      • Thanks Patty! In your post you say it’s a custom silver-which colors did you use? I just did a dining room ceiling-salmon colored base coat, gold metallic, then an English brown metallic glaze. It turned out lovely!

  2. WHOA, Patty….LOVED this installation!! Looks FAB!

  3. WONDERFUL!!!!! Looks great Patty! Way to dress up a small space! Have you ever tried the S & W metallic glaze? Great finish, no lap lines.

  4. Just beautiful Patty, my neck aches just thinking about that job!

  5. thank you thank you 🙂 Dana – i like to mix the MM silvers often, because the silver is so tin man blue, and the warm silver is pretty but sometimes not silver enough. Jen, I’ve never used S&W , though I just saw some killer samples with texturline’s metal tech metallic paints – I am in the process of getting my hands on some of it to try, as it also claims NO lap lines and full coverage in 2…will let you know when i try that…

  6. If you don’t get a discount on S & W, they have 40% off till monday Nov 7.

I have used it and love it!!!!!! I also love the quartz stone.

  7. WOW!!! That’s all I can say — WOW …

  8. Yummy, yummy, yummy! I want that! 🙂 Makes me feel so warm!
