Catching Up, Photos To Share – Caromal’d Door Doors…

My camera SD card bit the dust.  No warning…  wouldn’t work when I popped it in.

I couldn’t toss it – a lot of photos were trapped on it.  I googled and found a solution –   a registration key from  For a mere $19.95,   I got most of  my pictures back 🙂

Then I tossed the card in the garbage.  Note to self – when the camera card starts looking old and tattered, it’s time to replace.

Here is a great, HEAVY exterior door, that had loads of potential… it was green blue to start with.    I’ve started to paint it, randomly, using Caromal Colours texture basecoat Putty

then a stencil in gold  metallic,  some Caromal chipping creme, and when all that dries, a coat of texture basecoat parchment

Sand like crazy using the mouse sander, then brush on some Coffee Glaze and wipe off…

This was white to start…  I brushed on texture basecoat Colonial Blue,  some Bayberry and some Parchment, all brushed wet into wet

and here’s the final result  –

I added some Parchment , then over all that I dry brushed a Modern Masters warm silver.  When it was dry I sanded the crap out of it,   to reveal some interest

brushed on Toner (which is my favorite when metallics are involved)   and wiped it off…

Lastly,  I used a stencil with Modern Masters metal paint bronze,  two coats, and a spray of oxidizer – result?  Dripping oxidized paint…

  1. That door is amazing in person!

  2. Wow, that looks SO good, Patty!

  3. Ah Ha! Now I know how to refinish my old peeling west facing front door. Will the CCpaints hold up to the sun and weather?

    • Hi Sheila, Make sure your surface is clean and dry before starting, and be sure to use an exterior rated topcoat to protect your finish – and you should have no problems.

  4. Hi! love the door! just wondering how much of one color paint did you need to cover the door? how much chipping creme?

  5. chipping creme only comes in 16 oz – you’d use maybe 1/5 – 1/4 of it??
to cover a door, 3 coat, one color, i’d say you’d need less than 1/2 a quart – unless you’re going or heavier finish then a little more
