A before, I originally thought about (and started) doing this piece in black Peppercorn, with some stippled texture so the sides would look leathery, then sanding back a few edges – that yellowy color coming through –
Then I changed my mind and decided I wanted something brown so I pulled out the Chocolate textured basecoat and started over
First layer of brown –
then, VOILA, done! 🙂
Don’t you wish it was that quick?
I’m usually pretty good at play by plays, but its been crazy busy – I’m lucky to get spare time for fun painting. When I started this one I didn’t stop until I was finished!
I brushed 2 coats of Chocolate textured basecoat. When it was dry I dry brushed Putty textured basecoat randomly over the whole piece (except for the sides and top). Notice I didn’t say anything about Chipping Creme. I didn’t use it this time – so the look I achieved was not so much a chipping/worn look as a dry brushed highlighted color over another color look
I stippled the Chocolate on the back panels of the hutch, then dragged a mix of warm silver and silver metallic paint over top. When dry, I sanded it back, and sanded the rest of the piece as well…
I highlighted detail areas and spindles with the same metallic mix, then finished the piece off with a coat of Min Wax Wipe On Poly- and a few Hobby Lobby crystal knobs –
