Fabulous Finishes Store- Celebrating An Amazing Year With An Auction!

Can you believe, I was here a year ago?

Getting the keys… a dream, a hope, stepping out with NOTHING but faith…   here is my post a year ago  https://fabulousfinishes.wordpress.com/2011/08/09/my-company-fabulous-finishes-is-opening-a-real-live-store-with-a-window/

A family affair,   blood sweat and tears… making it my own –

It seems like so long ago…

Truly, a family affair.   Thank you, Lord, for blessing me with a family that believed in me and supported me….

These pictures stir memories .   Being afraid…  Are we doing the right thing?  Is this the right time?  What if it fails?

Reminding myself daily that we walk in faith,  we trust in our good Lord,  we stay positive, and squash the worry out

My first green dollar 🙂

My lease was six months long.  By February I was getting great feedback and I confidently re-signed for another year.   Changing and growing, learning as I go

So many amazing clients, many warm memories, new friendships and connections…

This past spring I brought on another wonderful line of DIY paints – the CeCe Caldwell Chalk and Clay Paints.  They made my store even MORE colorful!

Teaching and inspiring others to use paint in fabulous ways –

Taking  items owners no longer wanted

and giving them new life…

So many lovely pieces that have found new homes –

THANK YOU wonderful customers!

I can’t take credit for this all.  I have gotten where I am because my God has blessed me with great talents.    My wonderful friend gave me a great idea one day – we could help so many in need by donating sales from pieces we paint.  Brilliant!

So I choose this as my first official piece, up for auction,  to celebrate a wonderfully successful first year in business.  ALL proceeds will go to MCREST Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team

Wait!  That was the before, this is it now

Solid wood, dove tail drawers, super clean almost like new condition.  Metallic finish in silvers and bronzes, swarovski crystals  (of course!) and an Aurastone epoxy top.

This piece is now up for open auction,  starting bid $500,  open for bidding until September 30th, at which time bidding will close.   You can submit your bid via email or in store.  Open to online bids, but buyer will pay all shipping fees.

All proceeds will be donated to MCREST.

This piece is one of a kind – a steal at $500.    Let your friends and family know – maybe we can reach the just right person who will have the perfect wall for it to call home, and we can help a great cause at the same time!

(MCREST) shelters men, women, children and families for up to 90 days in congregations across Macomb County.   The congregations provide meals, shower facilities, transportation and, when able, laundry services for our guests. MCREST operates year round  and is proud to provide a safe place where families and individuals can start over again and begin the transition of changing their lives.

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

A Vintage White Dining Room Gets One More Painted Update…

I posted about this set

and it’s paint process here  ->   Dining Table and Chairs Transformation

I loved painting this Jacobean set, everything came together so nicely.    It recently sold and when I get a chance I will do my next dining room set (a smaller Duncan Phyfe) in a similar combo.  Similar? Why not exact?

Well,  the customer that fell in love with the table and chairs  was drawn to the sideboard as well.  I finished the sideboard in Ce Ce Vintage White like the table, but I changed it up a little and sealed it with  Ce Ce Clear Wax tinted with gray pigment to age it.   I also painted the top a different color,  layering a custom mix (Vintage Chestnut + SpringHill Green 50/50)  over Pittsburgh Gray…

She was willing to make an offer on the whole set, but asked if I could  repaint the table top to match the brown finish on the sideboard.    Of course I said yes!

From this

to this

Ahhhhhh       I  L O V E    IT!

For sure,  next table top  will be brown just like this.  I started with a layer of Pittsburgh Gray,  over top I brushed a custom mix (50% Virginia Chestnut and Spring Hill Green), light sanded,  topcoated, then gave it a coat of dark brown gel stain.  It’s in the store for another couple weeks until the client can move it to her new room, if you’re local come check it out – maybe it will nudge you to repaint your own table and chairs!

A Bright Yellow Dresser and A Bright Yellow Counter Get A Caromal Colours Paint Makeover…

Connie shares,

Hi Patty,
Here are pictures of a project I did this weekend. This dresser was bright yellow. I had some primer on it …

then decided to paint it with Reclaim in Latte.

The plan was to make it look aged so instead of using the toner I went over it with a light coat of Peppercorn Textured Basecoat then a couple coats of paste wax. The result is exactly what I wanted!

Love these paints –   Connie

A far cry from that original yellow don’t you think?   And her other-

Hi Patty, Here is my way too yellow laminate sewing counter! I couldn’t stand it any longer so I gave it a makeover

The first coat is Caromal Colours Putty texture base coat, then Chipping Cream and a Chocolate topcoat, some sanding and 3 coats of wipe on poly.

Now I have a counter that doesn’t glow in the dark!

Yummy!

I love both your transformations Connie –  without any hands on experience, you got the steps down, then ventured out to create your OWN finishes –  awesome     Thank you for sharing!

A Vintage Chest Dressed In CeCe Rose and Swarovski Crystals

A pretty piece

Some would say “Why paint?”    For me,  I start with pieces that are good quality,  with nice lines, and try to give them a more current look that will interest my clients.  This chest is beautiful, but my customers will say

the color doesn’t work for me…

A feminine looking chest, I could see this in a young girl’s room, or a  guest room needing extra storage.  I painted a student desk a few months ago using CeCe Simply White and CeCe Portland Rose

I loved it’s presence in my store but it sold quick.    This store display is also dressed in CeCe Portland Rose (with a Simply White damask  stencil design)

That decided it.   I cleaned the chest and painted the first coat CeCe Caldwell Simply White,  when dry a second coat using CeCe Portland Rose

I lightly sanded my flat surfaces –   I usually use 150-220 grit sand paper,  you don’t have to sand but I always do – I like how it makes my finish look more refined (and it feels smoother).   After I light sanded, I took a wet rag and wiped my edges and areas that I wanted more ‘reveal’ –  see how the first color (white) is coming through the second (rose)?

I switched out the top knobs with a crystal version, the metal married up with the original hardware, but I didn’t like how stark the original hardware was

Like this little peek-a-poo compartment?

We put brown velvet inside, and added a small mirror

I removed the unattractive wheels and replaced them with crystal knobs that fit perfectly.  I didn’t glue them in,  instead I will remove them when the piece sells, and they can be re-inserted (into the existing holes) when it reaches it’s final destination.  They are dainty after all.

Back to the hardware,  I decided to dry brush the white on the handles, to soften them, and glued a Swarovski crystal on each center to tie them into the knobs I added

I loved that touch

Perfect.

See that lovely finish sheen?

It comes from the most fabulous wax on the market – okey I’m partial, but I’m serious! –  CeCe’s Clear Wax.    One coat, brushed on with a simple chip brush and buffed with a soft cloth several hours later,  this wax is 100%  GREEN!  Free of any nastiness and even better, there is  no smell.

I named her Rose and she is available for purchase 🙂
