Great Paint Finishes Combo’ing Caromal Colours AND CeCe Caldwell…

I represent both the Caromal Colours and CeCe Caldwell Chalk and Clay Paints and am often asked,

What paint is your favorite?

I don’t have a favorite – I love them both.  One is more textural, can hide more flaws, and can create one heck of a primitive chunky monkey finish, while the other is more refined, offers a delicious color palette, and manipulates effortlessly.

What happens when you put both together?   I should say   “Oh, it’s awful,  a yukky look – don’t waste your time.”,  and keep the lovely finishes to myself…

…but you know me,  that’s not how I roll

I brushed one thicker layer of Caromal Colours Textured Basecoat Putty on this chair, along with some Textured Basecoat Chocolate – both at the same time- then let it dry

Next came  a thin brushed on layer of CeCe Caldwell Simply White.   When that dried I  sanded some of the white to reveal the under texture color then sealed it using the Cece Clear Wax.  I love that the  clear wax doesn’t yellow, perfect over white –

Voila!

Can I lick the screen?

Isn’t that scrumptious?

Another chair, same finish

A shelf, again same combo –  can you tell I love it?

Think of the combinations – 13 Caromal textured paints,  36 CeCe Caldwell jewels…

this shelf 1st coat dragged Caromal Peppercorn and Chocolate,  2nd coat CeCe Caldwell Young Kansas Wheat – topped with Liberon Wax

Oh Yah!

Here’s another piece –  I started with Caromal Textured Basecoat Peppercorn,  just on the top

I let it dry then brushed on one coat of CeCe Vintage White and CeCe Sedona Red, alternately, through a checker stencil

When dry I lightly sanded and revealed some black texture to give it an aged effect

then I finished painting and sealed it with Clear Wax

It’s like a Dr. Seuss world – there is SO much you can do with paint!   No sanding, no stripping – start with a clean piece and let the painting begin.

One of my busy painty customers, Erin, shared this beautiful piece she painted-

Hi Patty,

I just finished this china cabinet done in CeCe Vermont Slate grey and CeCe Clear Wax!  I basecoated in Caromal Colours Textured Basecoat Peppercorn

Have a great day!  Painting is my therapy…love all your great teaching!

Lovely attention to detail, Erin you are a master!

Caromal Textured basecoats come in quarts and gallons.   I even carry the 8 ounce sampler pots, one sampler, using this 1st coat texture finish, could do a whole piece of furniture!

Happy Painting!

  1. Hi patty! I did a search on ASCP vs CeCe Caldwell, and happened onto your Youtube video…thank you for all the tips. I have painted & stained wood for a number of years the hard way and bought a few (old white & graphite) of AS. I was looking for something better (?) and love the fact that CeCe Caldwell is all made in the United States and really like that the paint names are all places in the U.S.! As a bonus I discovered Caromel Colours. I am so happy to have found your blog/store and the products.

    Thanks again!
