Where’d This American Paint Company Clay/Chalk/Mineral Base Paint Come From?

NO SANDING         NO STRIPPING           NO PRIMING

If you haven’t noticed,  we recently signed on to retail the new American Paint Company paints.  Why?   Let me back up a bit…

My passion for creating beautiful finishes evolved from almost ten years in the faux finishing world.   I love trying new things, finding great products, creating really pretty stuff, and empowering others to do the same.

When I opened Fabulous Finishes in 2011 my goal was to offer customers a do-it-yourself  option for finishing cabinets, furniture and accessories with paint. The first line of  DIY paints that I married up with was Caromal Colours,  easy to use paints offering a variety of finish options –

Six months later I signed on with CeCe Caldwell,  a chalk/clay/mineral based paint that offered DIY’ers an all natural option to refinishing.  Like the Caromal Colours paints, the CeCe paints could be applied over nearly any surface without first having to sand, prime or strip (a homeowners dream)

Two uniquely different but lovely DIY  friendly paint lines…

We were creating cool finishes,  selling custom painted furniture, accessories, and paint/sundries, and our workshops were regular.  The best part for me was using the paints and creating lovely finishes.  The more options I could offer, the more needs I could meet. Things were growing at a fast pace, and  I realized we needed to find new digs.

This past February,  we moved into a new retail space, offering 1500 sf of showroom and another 1500 sf of workshop space

and two months later we were signing on the American Paint Company,  another clay/chalk/mineral paint line.

We already carry a clay/chalk/mineral line, so why another you ask?    Well, the biggest reason is this – the American Paint Company is the same kind of paint – clay/chalk/mineral based that is all natural, green, zero vocs,  no smell.  The paints and finishes are very simliar, almost interchangeable – so for me it was an easy addition.

American Paint Company offers more choices – 20 new colors and 10 equivalents to current CeCe colors – as well as more finish options  (light and dark vintage waxes).   In my mind, the more colors, the more finish options , the better!

Another big factor was this – CeCe Caldwell, from day one, supported retailers/stores carrying other product lines besides their own.   American Paint Company also supports retailers offering a variety of goods and services.   This was HUGE for me.  .  There are other lines of paint out there that won’t allow a retailer to offer choices to their  customers –  their products must be so perfect, after all,  that no other product is required?    Sorry, I’ve never bought that logic…

Coming from a finishing world, where many specialty paint lines are available,  I pride myself on trying anything and everything to help me find the best products on the market – be it a plaster to use, a glaze, or dazzling metallics.   If it ends up being from three different manufacturers, then so be it – it doesn’t mean I am less loyal, it means I am experienced in my trade.

I won’t be afraid to tell you that Caromal Colours paints are more durable for kitchen cabinets, or to cover tile around a fireplace, because their paints adhere like cement.    I love the  CeCe Caldwell and the American Paint Company clay/chalk/mineral paints for a more refined furniture finish –    the waxes and finishes are hands down fabulous.

Their paints are clay/chalk/mineral based.  That sounds like the CeCe paints, right?   Yes, these 2 lines are very simliar but not exact.   They are green, zero voc, all natural – the PERFECT PAINT LINE to join our store, given we pride ourselves on being able to offer all natural products.
