Duck Grows Up, Chalk AND Clay AND Mineral Paints Make It Easy…

No PRE photos of duck when he was abandoned and in desperate need of a makeover,   but this was after round 1, earlier this summer

Yesterday we started to decorate the store for the holidays.   I thought DUCK would be pretty in the front windows, dressed up with a bow…  but his  look wasn’t working for me,

so I took him in back,  yanked off his fringe, repainted him with American Paint Company Wild Horses (brown) and then over that APC Navajo White (soft white)

I weathered him a little with a quick scuff scuff of 180 grit sand paper, then sealed the paint finish with American’s Topcoat Finish.  I LOVE this topcoat, an all natural- (zero VOC) –   water based, topcoat that cures to a hard finish – the perfect alternative to their all natural (zero VOC) waxes.  It brushes on like water,  simple, easy, and FAST!

APC Topcoat is my choice when I need a hard, durable finish,  after all,  hopefully little kidlets will be rocking on this, and it needs to be safe for mouths that might bite, and smudgies from little hands!

Once DUCK dried, I added new trim

I decided to use a discarded burlap sack as the perfect cap for Chez Duck!

I love your e-mails! They are fun and inspiring and infinitely creative. Thanks for sharing your gift with me (and so many others).

  2. After reading your posts for some time now, I think you might be able to help. We have a customer who wants her dining room windsor type chairs painted black green. We went to the paint store to ask about mixing exactly the color she wanted and putting it in a spray can so the finish would look like a factory finish. It was too expensive for the customer. So the option would be to spray with a Krylon dark green, but my question to you is, would you have a stain/topcoat finish that would dull down and blacken the kind of bright dark green so it would look more to her request without breaking the bank? Thank you for any help you can give us.
