This is my second post, trying to get all my old projects pinned to my Pinterest boards. The first was my chalk/clay paint pieces (my last post), this one – Caromal Colours DIY paint pieces.
Five years ago, when I was introduced to Caromal Colours, not many knew who they were or what they offered. I was very active with my faux finishing business, and found out about them through a friend. I went out east to learn their products, and came back to Michigan ready to spread the word about amazing products that adhered to pretty much ANYTHING with no sanding, stripping or priming. Note, this was WELL before the word ‘chalk paint’ surfaced in the states. (a funny – guess what ingredient is in their paint? 🙂 )
Caromal offers 2 product lines – a Country Living line featuring textured basecoat paints, glazes, a simple plaster, gilding products, and even a line of stencils. They also offer the Reclaim line, an all in one (including sealer) roll on paint making paint application even easier. All of their paints are water based, no smell and low VOC. I love their products – my customers love their products – take a look at these pictures and see what you can do, then get your hands on their paint if you haven’t – I guarantee you will love it too!
PS) they are FABULOUS under chalk and clay based paints.
No particular order here,
Textured Basecoat Parchment with Toning Glaze over a gold mirror
Textured Basecoat Parchment with Toning Glaze over a gold mirror

Caromal Textured basecoat Cobblestone, Chipping Creme, TB Peppercorn, sanded, Toner.
How crazy is this, – I was having a hard time finding a round table for our new house , so I took this one from the showroom and refinished it – AGAIN!
Then, all that was left were the chairs…. and they sat lonely for quite awhile… until I realized that I could use 2 with a side table I had down in our basement
so I used Textured Basecoat Paprika on the old olive backing (leather or plether, not sure) , used white on the spindles, and I was all set 🙂
One of the very first pieces I did – Textured Basecoat Colonial Blue, TB Wisteria Stencil embedded, Chipping Creme, TB Parchment, sand, Toner
This was my daughter’s old creme furniture – we painted it Reclaim Licorice and added silver zebra accents. (I also Aurastoned the tops)
The old brass chandelier I picked up at Habitat Restore – painted it with a layer of Caromal Textured Basecoat Chocolate, then drybrushed a silver blend metallic over it, then antiqued it using Caromal’s Toner. Lastly, blinged it out attaching crystals, pretty ribbon and poupourri
Love this chandelier revamp – when customers ask if it’s for sale we say NOPE!
This glass table STILL gets alot of attention. I applied an allover stencil using on eof Caromal’s Stencils and the Textured Basecoat Chocolate. It sticks like cement. Good luck getting it off – you wont’!
Over the dried paint I applied Caromal Sticky Size, then adhered a few foil colors (gold, bronze, iridescent) – for fun…

For fun, my daughter’s old beat up cork board – painted it Reclaim Mocha, then zebra stenciled it all over with metallic silver.
This was the first time I’d tried the Textured Basecoats under metallics – and fell in serious love. TB Chocolate, stippled. Metallic Champagne dry brushed over top. Sanded, antiqued with Caromal Toner.
Love it, and have turned many on to this finish – almost one per workshop choose to do a similiar finish – quick, easy, beautiful!

Showing the versatility of Caromal paints, a simple swipe of Textured Basecoat Pumpkin adds texture to this metal cart frame. Over the pumpkin I dry brushed American Paint Surfboard – some Toner and voila!
Another reason I often recommend the Textured Basecoats – these crazy 70’s formica and metal trim tables needed a facelift – I used TB Wisteria as the base, knowing it would bond fabulously to the metal AND formica – and add a little depth, over that I crackled white chalk/clay paint – a perfect mix!
I’m sorry I sold these!
Crackling chalk/clay paint over Caromal Textured Basecoat Huckleberry, again, the knob was inspiration.
Our old cherry stained oak cabinets – painted Caromal Textured Basecoat Peppercorn, sanded back, with Toner.
