Thanksgiving Blessings…

It’s been longer than usual  – the crazy is,  not a day goes by where I don’t have intentions of posting.    The changeover from Fall decor to Winter, in retail, is enough to put you behind  –

holiday accessories, home decor, painted wares, vintage, distressed, birds, nests, fabulous finishes studio, metro detroit, patty henning, shop online,

We’ve been busy getting our American Paint Company collection in order-  updating new colors coming in, soon after the New Year, and  sale pricing the retired colors…  Really excited to use the new American Heritage Collection of colors –  DSC_8898

Especially that red, orange and yellow….

A new brown, Shingles on the Roof and grey, Tarnished Platter,  were my choices for this harlequin design I’ve started (background).  The colors are unsealed so they are appearing lighter than what they’ll actually be – and yes, the Tarnished Platter is a blue grey (but not nearly as blue as it looks in this photo) DSC_8901l

Did I tell you our site is being re-vamped?  Looking for it to launch the first part of December, phase 1 will be the store online cart ( and soon after that you’ll  see this blog’s format change up.    I am anxious and hopeful that everything will be just fabulous 🙂

We completed this set of six dining chairs – originally cherry wood, the customer wanted a higher gloss black painted finish with a little wear –

Caromal Colours Reclaim Licorice, with Minwax Wipe-on Poly Gloss for a higher sheen

Finished this brass table base to a warmer silver finish, basing it first with Caromal Colours textured basecoat Putty, thinned down a little,  then a metallic paint blend of silvers, and a Caromal Colours Toning Glaze to soften.  Topcoated with Minwax Wipe-on Poly Satin-

The harlequin tables sold

so did one of my favorites – the Peacock Foiled Clock Table

American Paint Peacock over Caromal textured base Pumpkin, APC Dark Wax – foiled and stenciled top.

This chair was in nice enough shape when I acquired it,  except for the weathered woven seat.   I cleaned it up and gave the seat a swipe of APC Born on the Forth and Dark Wax, thinking that would make the chair a nice fit with the desk, but it was never a favorite of mine…

APC Born on the Fourth of July over Caromal Colours textured basecoat Candy Apple, sanded and APC Dark Waxed.

I decided to use this chair as a do-over in my last local DIY TV session.  The night before taping I applied a Monahan Aged Paper to the seat (I hated the look of that center area).  In the morning it was dry and ready to demo.

DIY SHELBY #4  shows the application of two colors of chalk paint, a revealing back, and then a dark wax.  When all was said and done, I had a revised chair that was a better fit for this desk-

You can watch that show here –

A future show will feature an Aged Paper application.

A recent Paint A Piece Workshop offered the additional selection of finishes from our new Caromal Colours Botanical Collection – a matte chalk finish paint that flows out like butter, covers with very little application marks, and requires no sealer to stay put.   This attendee decided to try it out, and painted her small chest with Botanical Gardenia, a soft neutral –

she was tickled with the results, and we were thrilled that it indeed WAS as wonderful  as we thought it was!

I posted our 2015 Workshop Schedule.  It runs January through April you can find that link here –

We’ve been selling our Aged Papers like crazy, we’ve had to reorder several times. Today we received  our recent order, and in it was this cool print that I had to order –

We took two of him and used those as the focal point for this piece – finished with Caromal Botanicals Boxwood Moss and Aster-

How fun is that?  I had no intention of punching up the color around the prints, but I could SEE several other distinct colors jumping out at me –  Dahlia, in the bodice and postage stamp, and Aster in the dress, so I accented the images with both, and then sanded back to reveal some textured chocolate.  From there, it made sense to add the polka dots with some more Aster, and Moss.
