We Love When Our Customers Share Their Projects!

It’s always fun to see what our customers are doing, how they tackle projects with our products…

Here are some recent pictures-
This kitchen was shared last time around, but the counters and a few other pretties weren’t complete. The proud owner shared a more recent photo of her updated kitchen – the before

and the after,  cabinets painted and glazed by the homeowners themselves

Updated, painted oak cabinets, using Reclaim White with Coffee Glaze.

A pair of fun chairs using several of our chalk and clay paints by American Paint Company.  Using our Fish Fossil Stencil with our Stone Plaster adds a great raised design-

and almost put back together – She used our Botanical mineral paint color Willow

Dawn visited her father in Florida, and his several pieces of oak furniture that no longer worked for him.  He wanted a lighter, weathered wood feel, and chose a barnworn finish on the table, and a softer color on the rest.

They used Textured Basecoat colors Putty and Wisteria with our Molasses Glaze.  The remaining pieces were painted White and our Less Intense Molasses Glaze.

Hard to see the table detail, but the finish looked like this

Rhonda gave her nightstands a nice makeover, adding decorative legs and then painting with our American Paint Company Freedom Road

One of our regular customers online, Katherine from Arkansas, shared this headboard project she completed:

Here’s a before and after – The first is the stripped raw wood with a watered down Reclaim Pebble. You can see half of the head board is done.

The second photo is after the Caromal Colours Toner was brushed on in in direction of the wood grain but not wiped back.  I just brushed until it no longer had streaks.   Toner worked beautifully! Over the weekend I tried different glazes and said to myself ” it just doesn’t have enough bite”  Then I remembered you saying how toner has a great bite to it! Thanks so much! It’s exactly the look I was going for.

Shannon painted this cabinet using a custom teal Cottage Paint color we tinted for her.   This is a great way to accommodate our customers when they have a specific color in mind they they can’t find with our current line of paints.   She used some of our American Paint colors that she had left over from other projects to paint and stencil the inside –

Branko completed his kitchen cabinet project, and what a difference , don’t you agree?  They are thrilled!

Linda shared her project,  a 4′ kitchen cabinet for their cottage in Lexington.  She used a French Blue, sanded the edges, and finished it with our Durable Satin Sealer –

Another amazing kitchen,  the before

The beginning,  probably for many what seems like ‘The Point of No Return”  or even “Oh Shit, Here We Go!”

You invest the hours – your time and effort,  some even sweat… and then you see finish line ahead

and you are pumped!   You may have started like this

but you end, chanting  OH YA!!!!!!

Awesomeness….   you’re covered here at the Fab – I trust our product lines,  and our sales associates are knowledgeable and here to help you find what you need 🙂

Lynn’s hutch makeover turned out amazing  –

This hope chest started its transformation in one of our Paint a Piece Workshops.  Our customer brought in the chest, minus the top (otherwise the piece would have been too large to complete) and painted cream with  American Paint Dark Vintage Wax to add that lovely antiquing effect, and a soft sheen and feel as well.

chest 2

It’s a beautiful chest – she loved it for years in its darker form, but it was time for a lighter version.  I love that she can still appreciate this piece that holds meaning to her.

No before, but here’s the after on this pretty painted table –

The customer used Textured Basecoat Parchment (cream) , Botanical Salvia (soft grey), both by Caromal Colours, and then aged it up using our American Paint Company Vintage Dark Wax

Here’s a gorgeous piece from one of our lovely customers in Texas – Kaye used a number of our products to customize this hutch, and I absolutely love it’s romantic feel.

Bathroom oak cabinets, updated using a mix of Reclaim Mocha and Linen

This one was finished with Mocha

Pat brought a couple kitchen cabinet doors to our Painting Cabinet class, and has us walk her through the painting process – she used  a mix of Bright White  and Off White Reclaim.  She brought those same  freshly painted, dried for a week, doors back the following weekend for our Glazing Cabinet class, and glazed them using our Umber Glaze

A Long Weekend, Dedicated To The Place I Call Home…

Weekends  aren’t the same when you own a retail business.   A holiday weekend is no different.

Saturday evening was warm and sunny in Detroit.  I pulled up to our flower-pot-less house, and couldn’t help but notice the other houses around us, all perky with colorful flowers…   some were still out tending to their yards.

I did purchase 4  coco lined deck planter boxes a couple weekends ago –  my mom always hung planter boxes off her deck and I loved them – and filled them with colorful annuals, but that’s all I’ve done so far.

Yards…. outdoor spaces…  all of their pretty spaces just made me grumble at ours.  Does that ever happen to you?

Needless to say, I let the negative thinking get me down – how could THAT happen, with all the Joyce Meyer I listen to?

Sunday morning after church I felt an urge –  not to plant, but to paint.   Honestly, I feel like God was saying to me

Why don’t you make that house feel like home?

I decided to tackle the library.   I’ve had 2 frames from Kirklands that I don’t use anymore – they looked kinda like this

and my plan was to use them to display my kids senior photos.  They’ve been propped in the library since last year when my son graduated.  Now, with my daughter in her last week of high school, was a good time to get it done.

Here was my Sunday project – the walls, prior, were builder beige…

I combined several colors of metallic plaster that I had on the shelves – Lusterstone Weathered Bronze, Lusterstone Silver Taupe, Lusterstone Ebony and mixed them all together to get a carbon color, and rolled and troweled that onto the walls.

The frames I took apart,  whiz rolled the cardboard matte with Perfect Plaster tinted grey, and then a scraped layer over top.  I dragged Textured Basecoat Peppercorn, Chocolate and Parchment over the frames, and then topped it with a little Botanical Salvia.    I wish I had taken a before and after …

Sunday night I was exhausted,  it took me all the way until midnight to get the room back together,  but it felt good to finally get something done.

Monday, I woke up and decided to tackle the kitchen

kitchen before

I didn’t think it would take long, since there wasn’t that much wall space, but I was wrong….  I didn’t get the kitchen put back together until late in the evening…

I’ve said for sometime that I wanted to use Caromal’s Perfect Plaster in my kitchen – I love the simpleness of the finish – I whizz rolled the first coat and scraped on the second coat

The simple scraping of that second layer draws up that natural color –

I cleaned and packed everything up, then realized I forgot the two ends of our island!   Crap…   I’ll have to finish that this weekend.

All in all,  I love how it warmed up our space

Maybe next weekend I’ll add a few flower pots to the front porch 🙂

This is a big week for us – my daughter’s High School Soccer team start their race again for district, regional and the state title.  First game is tonight!

Happy painting!

Finished the Silver Vanity, Workshop Creations

Wrapping up the week, I finished this piece for old vanity for my client –

Taking pictures in the workroom make horrible photos, with all the clutter and messy shelves as backdrops…   I ‘fuzzed’ out the background on this one, so at least you can see the whole set.   It came to me dressed in a previously painted, tired, yellow color.

I gave it one of my metallic silver antiqued finishes, and wood grained the top-

My Fabulous Finishes style has always been a little over the top,  dressing pieces up with pretty feet, decorated drawers, crystals always (even if I hide them on the back), even shimmer if I can get away with it… this customer wanted it fabulous 🙂

Ended the week with a Paint A Piece Workshop.  Every now and then I fail to capture photos of the evening and last night was one of them,   however,  I DID get some as they were leaving the store…

Jan_pringle_chest Another before vanity diedra_before Love the AFTER experience 🙂 Deedee writes:

OMG, I really put it to the test.  Cabinets are about 25 years old, I’ve never been refinished or painted.  Lots of wear as you  can see.  All I did was wipe them with denatured alcohol and roll on Reclaim Paint Pewter.  I even did the handles.  I love that it shows the grain like a high end stain.  I’m going to glaze them but I had to share because I’m so excited!  Thank you!

deedra_after I can see why she is excited –  this cabinet looks fabulous!!! deedra_after_2 This chest was sent to me, and Im not sure who it was or what it was – I’d say either American Paint Company colors Cannonball, Fireworks Red, and Amber Waves of Grain, or it could be Reclaim Licorice, Poppy and Buttercreme…  either way, cool use of paints – painted_trunk_fabulous_finishes Katherine used our Gilding Leaf products to gold leaf a light fixture –  this turned out fabulous, and she is thrilled! kat_wat_gilded kat_wat_gilded2 A before chair pamela_before_chair Pamela joined one of our workshops and completed this pretty silver finish chair, using Reclaim Mocha, a metallic silver, and our Black Glaze pamela_chair Nicole’s cabinets before – nicole before and after, using Reclaim Bright White nicole after A before dining room table dlnovak_before and after,  it looks like they used Reclaim Licorice (black) and Caromal Colours Textured Basecoat Pumpkin with Toner for the woodgrain look – dlnovak_after2 dlnovak_after Kaye used our Aged Papers and paints to create this sweet wood sign kaye_groff This is what Karen’s before furniture looked like karen_before and this is her after transformation 🙂 using American Paint Company Navajo White over Smoke Signal,  and stenciling with metallics – karen_2 karen_3 karen_4 karen_5 Lori used Botanical Peony on this piece lori_wood This is a dresser, that Mary refurbished into a vanity – marymortage_before Gorgeous!  Love the sink, and the top row of drawers – didn’t even notice the detail on the old dresser…     She used Caromal Textured Basecoat Peppercorn, dry brushed some Bronze Metallic over that, and topped with Reclaim Glaze and Reclaim Sealer marymortage_powder)after Barb had this cute wooden stool, but wanted to freshen up the look painted_stool_before Darn it, Im not sure what she used,  I think  APC Shingle on the Roof stenciled over APC Smoke Signal painted_stool_after Mary’s before table base table pre 3 she used Reclaim Offwhite as the base, then applied American Paint’s Clear Wax with various amounts of Pewter Mica added to it – table final 3 An island, ready for some color – Kitchen_island_paint_cabinets_before Denise used about a 1/4 of a quart of Reclaim Pebble for this transformation… Yes,  YOU can do it! island_painted_reclaim Here is Lynne’s first Reclaim project, using  Reclaim Mocha as the base,  our metallic silver blend over top, and then Caromal’s Toner to antique it back – what a cool piece! lynn_jackson_painted_chest Sue sends this before photo of a table that her neighbor was throwing out years earlier.  From the photo its hard to tell, but the top was ruined and the rest of the finish had gouges and splatter from paint.    She used it as is, for their TV- Tv table 001 They are now in the process of transitioning their living space to lighter and brighter.  The family room, with a nautical style theme, was the lead for this transformation- sue_Tv table 007 Sue used several nautical / whale aged papers that we have, and cut them to fit the unique spaces, then mixed our chalk clay paints (a white and yellow) to create a soft neutral, topcoated, and voila!   She was thrilled that she was able to remake her piece into something that will work with their new decor.  Just love this!!!
