Our Customer Painting Projects

I have the online store how I’d like it.  Almost.   So I’m moving back to posting.  If you find something quirky or missing with the online store  let me know and I’ll fix it quick  🙂

Let’s start with projects customers have shared – many of these customers were brand new to this thing called ‘paint it yourself’.   No better way to inspire you!

American Paint Company Fireworks Red, Stencil detail, APC Black Wax

Too many of these custom wall units around to count, right? Here’s Michelle and Joe’s before –

Good chance you’ve tried selling, or checked around to see if it held any value….Look no further-

Beyond Linen with Molasses Glaze

Oak updated to WHITE with Beyond Bright White

These are all homeowners painting their own stuff –  that equates to big time savings….

Arrghhh…  not sure what this color is, but the cabinet is lovely!

Beyond’s Pewter is like a glamorous model in photos,  here’s Lisa’s glam redo-

More oak cabinets…  don’t have the paint color the used, reminds me of Beyond White or Offwhite with a Molasses or Dark Grey  Glaze?

Nanette refinished a side table using Botanical Mulberry and one of our European Aged Papers on the drawer front –

If you’re drawn to these papers, and would like to see our process of apply and aging around them,  you can watch the Episode 5 video I taped with Shelby TV .

Ann updated her oak cabinets with Beyond Nantucket

Ann said: These are 30 yr old cupboards – Used your product Beyond Reclaim (Nantucket) & sealed with your satin water based sealer.  Very satisfied.  Love the new look.

Jess took on a paint project for her MIL – this was the inspiration photo

Just that little bit of white pops this set!

These cabinets were originally white laminate.   A blend of Beyond Pebble and Beyond Versailles (now retired but similar to Soft Grey) , with Molasses Glaze and Umber Glaze –

Mary had fun using our Aged Papers in various ways.  Here is one, she used Botanical Mulberry and accented a cabinet front with one of the papers –
Sharon refinished her oak kitchen cabinets with Beyond Offwhite and Coffee Glaze

Beyond’s Mocha dark brown on the island –

For 34 doors she used 3/4 gallon of Offwhite,   3 thin coats both sides,    16 ounce glaze, and 16 ounce sealer with 2 coats.  (she opted to add an additional sealer for extra durability)

Kathy said:   My husband and I were in your store before Christmas looking for finishes for a frame project. After looking at the “fabulous ” samples we decided on Beyond Licorice base paint, Metallic Statuary Bronze and your Black Glaze. This was so different from what I had originally thought to do and the result was “fabulous “. The directions offered for using the finishes was easy to follow and very helpful.

I don’t recall the color used over this oak kitchen, but I do remember being wow’d at the time –  LOVED the way they finished off the island – lets say they used either Beyond Pebble or Soft Grey –

maybe our lovely customer that transformed this kitchen will see this and confirm the color used 🙂

Annalee updated her bathroom cabinets using Beyond Pebble and our Molasses Glaze

Jennifer and her husband started with a room full of traditional cherry furniture

–  We used the Beyond Reclaim Paint mixing Pebble and White in a 2/1 ratio.  We also used your Dark Grey Glaze and then your topcoat Matte Sealer. We love it and the paint was easy to work with.

How romantic this room feels, the soft grey color playing off the natural floor and calming blue walls –

LOVE IT!

Irene’s husband refinished parts of their great room furniture- don’t remember the exact color used –

Blessings to you!

We Love When Our Customers Share Their Projects!

It’s always fun to see what our customers are doing, how they tackle projects with our products…

Here are some recent pictures-
This kitchen was shared last time around, but the counters and a few other pretties weren’t complete. The proud owner shared a more recent photo of her updated kitchen – the before

and the after,  cabinets painted and glazed by the homeowners themselves

Updated, painted oak cabinets, using Reclaim White with Coffee Glaze.

A pair of fun chairs using several of our chalk and clay paints by American Paint Company.  Using our Fish Fossil Stencil with our Stone Plaster adds a great raised design-

Dawn visited her father in Florida, and his several pieces of oak furniture that no longer worked for him.  He wanted a lighter, weathered wood feel, and chose a barnworn finish on the table, and a softer color on the rest.

They used Textured Basecoat colors Putty and Wisteria with our Molasses Glaze.  The remaining pieces were painted White and our Less Intense Molasses Glaze.

One of our regular customers online, Katherine from Arkansas, shared this headboard project she completed:

Here’s a before and after – The first is the stripped raw wood with a watered down Reclaim Pebble. You can see half of the head board is done.

bed_headboard_painted_glazed_fabfinisher (2)

The second photo is after the Caromal Colours Toner was brushed on in in direction of the wood grain but not wiped back.  I just brushed until it no longer had streaks.   Toner worked beautifully! Over the weekend I tried different glazes and said to myself ” it just doesn’t have enough bite”  Then I remembered you saying how toner has a great bite to it! Thanks so much! It’s exactly the look I was going for.

Shannon painted this cabinet using a custom teal Cottage Paint color we tinted for her.   This is a great way to accommodate our customers when they have a specific color in mind they they can’t find with our current line of paints.   She used some of our American Paint colors that she had left over from other projects to paint and stencil the inside –

Lynn’s hutch makeover turned out amazing  –

lynn_hutch_painted_makeover_fabfinisher_cottage_paint_ash

This hope chest started its transformation in one of our Paint a Piece Workshops.  Our customer brought in the chest, minus the top (otherwise the piece would have been too large to complete) and painted cream with  American Paint Dark Vintage Wax to add that lovely antiquing effect, and a soft sheen and feel as well.

chest 2

It’s a beautiful chest – she loved it for years in its darker form, but it was time for a lighter version.  I love that she can still appreciate this piece that holds meaning to her.

And this from one of our customers in South Carolina-

Hi Patty,  A shiny brass chandelier before, I used Textured Basecoat Parchment and Toner. I smooshed and “tapped” Parchment all over.  Applied Toner heavy then dabbed with a paper towel to get the light and dark areas.  Thanks for your inspiration!!!!  Blessings,  Susie

Before, a lovely brass fixture, class and could stand the test of time, right?  Sure, unless you are changing the feel of a room, or your whole house – then you could either replace it with a new one, OR keep this one intact and give it a new look…

Fabulous!

Christina was updating her daughter’s bedroom when she came into our store.  She brought a sample of the new bedding with her, to see what color she could use to update the oak furniture, which included a LARGE wall unit and another dresser…

I wish she’d have shared a before photo – she hated the hardware, but they were unique in size, making it difficult to replace without costing a fortune.  I told her to go right over the hardware – let it blend right in with the pieces –

chris_oak_bedroom_wall_unit_painted_mocha

I know she used Reclaim, I just have to confirm if she used Mocha, or if she mixed two colors together – Mocha and ButterCreme– to get a softer brown (Mocha reclaim is a dark dark brown, like bakers chocolate).   We have a number of sample color boards in our store that we call BLENDS –  a mix of two, sometimes even three colors of Reclaim, in varying ratios – creating colors differet than the main deck – like these reclaim_paint_blended_colors

She also picked up some American Paint Company Coral Reef, and used that to paint this mirror

mirror before

Christina was thrilled with the results, and her daughter loved her new bedroom!

Customer Paint Projects Round 2 – Amazing Oak Kitchen Updates!

Here comes Round 2 of clearing the slate for 2016,  sharing those projects sent in from our awesome customers .   What better way to inspire others right?

Kim shared this after photo of her painted kitchen cabinets,  White Reclaim and Pewter Reclaim on the island, a great combo!

Caroline shared an adorable stool she painted-

Just want to thank you for the tips and my order.  I used the textured base coat and tips from one of your videos to paint this stool for my dog rescue silent auction.  It went for $85, very excited. I used the micas and dark glaze too.  The dog is from a stencil…

and this fabulous before and after, using  Pewter Reclaim and our White Glaze
Here are pics of our kitchen redo of our house in Traverse City. Sure do love that Reclaim. I also used the Pewter in my bathroom. Love your store! Debbie Hollinger
trav_city_oak_kitchen
I’m sure you will notice every last detail in this kitchen update, I know I did!   They took one big $$ item in a kitchen renovation – dated oak cabinets – and made them perfect, and current,  simply with the use of our paints and glazes…
trav_city_oak_kitchen_painted_black_2

trav_city_oak_kitchen_4_before

Great use of paint, love the color choice, paired with the rest of their updates – love the stone back splash,  the big farm sink, updated stainless appliances, adding clean hardware to the cabinets….

Notice they removed the trim molding on these glass door panels

resulting in a more modern look.  I love the fun pop of color inside

And a surprise element on the back of this island  – instead of painting they faced it with old weathered pallet boards!!!   This is a kitchen you could easily see in any current home magazine –  I would want to live here year round.

Nicole transformed  her oak kitchen cabinets with Pebble reclaim

a little dark but you can see the transition happening….

nicole_nightengale_painted_oak_cabinets_in_progress

Here’s a great angle, with better lighting –  I had to look back at the other photos, to see if the appliances or back splash had changed –  and they are the same…  Love how the updated cabinets bring the whole kitchen together, and the floor looks amazing  with it…

Nicole also used the paint to update her oak railing

Susan from Mississippi shared:

My kitchen  just sold in a week. Everyone loved it, and people have tried to hire me to paint their kitchens.  I used the Textured Basecoat  Peppercorn and Paprika  – it was my first time using the paint 🙂

susanpolk_painted_stove_surround

you can’t tell in the picture above that the Peppercorn is layered over the Paprika, but in the picture below you can see it.

This is our Barnworn Finish, where you brush on Textured Basecoat color #1, let it dry ,  brush on Chipping Creme, let it dry, brush over it with Textured Basecoat color#2, let it dry,  sand and chip back to reveal color #1, then brush on a Toning Glaze .      Very cool, very custom –

Sheri sends-

Hi Patty!
You ladies helped me in your store with the kind of paints to get, so I thought you might like to see the finished project. (This was my very first piece to redo!)
I sanded and restained the top. For the rest, I used reclaim licorice and added pewter mica to the clear coat to give it a little sheen.

I painted each knob and pull with the reclaim as well and added pewter mica on top with the clear coat.

Wendy from Chesaning, Mi sent a lovely message:

…always hated the brass trim of the fireplace but, after replacing carpet with a bleached grey flooring and painting the living room walls grey with white trim, that fireplace trim had to go. I had one tablespoon of Reclaim Licorice and no time to wait for reordering but knowing how far that amazing paint goes, I opened my jar and got to work. After the Reclaim dried, I followed your blog on painting fireplace trim metallic to complement the new floor and modern look.

wendy_paint_fireplace

wend_fireplace_painting

Amazingly, I had enough of that tablespoon of Reclaim paint left in the jar to put a stencil on a small table to use in the ‘Provence’ style wedding and to finish a few frames! Your paint is truly fabulous and you are my inspiration.

Thank you Wendy!
