We Love When Our Customers Share Their Projects!

It’s always fun to see what our customers are doing, how they tackle projects with our products…

Here are some recent pictures-
This kitchen was shared last time around, but the counters and a few other pretties weren’t complete. The proud owner shared a more recent photo of her updated kitchen – the before

and the after,  cabinets painted and glazed by the homeowners themselves

Updated, painted oak cabinets, using Reclaim White with Coffee Glaze.

A pair of fun chairs using several of our chalk and clay paints by American Paint Company.  Using our Fish Fossil Stencil with our Stone Plaster adds a great raised design-

Dawn visited her father in Florida, and his several pieces of oak furniture that no longer worked for him.  He wanted a lighter, weathered wood feel, and chose a barnworn finish on the table, and a softer color on the rest.

They used Textured Basecoat colors Putty and Wisteria with our Molasses Glaze.  The remaining pieces were painted White and our Less Intense Molasses Glaze.

Dear Patty

Here are some pictures of my Master Bathroom using your Reclaim Off White and your Molasses Less Intense Glaze.    I’m so thankful to have stumbled upon your website and love all of your inspiration and products!  I only wish I lived nearby to check out your store in person.   Adrienne   Monument, Colorado

One of our regular customers online, Katherine from Arkansas, shared this headboard project she completed:

Here’s a before and after – The first is the stripped raw wood with a watered down Reclaim Pebble. You can see half of the head board is done.

The second photo is after the Caromal Colours Toner was brushed on in in direction of the wood grain but not wiped back.  I just brushed until it no longer had streaks.   Toner worked beautifully! Over the weekend I tried different glazes and said to myself ” it just doesn’t have enough bite”  Then I remembered you saying how toner has a great bite to it! Thanks so much! It’s exactly the look I was going for.

LOVE IT!!

Shannon painted this cabinet using a custom teal Cottage Paint color we tinted for her.   This is a great way to accommodate our customers when they have a specific color in mind they they can’t find with our current line of paints.   She used some of our American Paint colors that she had left over from other projects to paint and stencil the inside –

Lynn’s hutch makeover turned out amazing  –

This hope chest started its transformation in one of our Paint a Piece Workshops.  Our customer brought in the chest, minus the top (otherwise the piece would have been too large to complete) and painted cream with  American Paint Dark Vintage Wax to add that lovely antiquing effect, and a soft sheen and feel as well.

chest 2

It’s a beautiful chest – she loved it for years in its darker form, but it was time for a lighter version.  I love that she can still appreciate this piece that holds meaning to her.

At The Fab, Paint Can Top Anything…

Love this time of year – the berry sprigs, pine needles, and snow tipped branches packed away, and blooming flowers take their place.  I arranged these pretty stems in a burlap container that I stenciled using our Postage Stamp Stencil and Caromal Colours Stencil Creme Mother Earth

Fabulous_finishes_painted_burlap_pots

This black metal vase turned patina easily, dragging Botanical Paint Aster, Moss and a little Gardenia.  No topcoat is required, as the Botanical Paints will stay put once dry,  but the finish will be chalky flat –  Fabulous_finishes_painted_chalk_clay_urn

A barn door was already crackled, easily achieved using  Elmers Glue and American Paint Company Navajo White.  I added a stamp stencil using Caromal Colours Stencil Creme Mother Earth

Fabulous_finishes_painted_door_stamp

This frame, originally teal and zebra,  changed it’s look using Reclaim Nantucket Blue.  I applied a dimensional FISH BONES stencil using Texture Plaster, and stenciled a metallic crown, decorating it with Swarovski Crystals.   I found a fun lady-catches-big-fish picture to display, knowing it would appeal to one of our many cottage/boater customers.    It wasn’t around long…

Fabulous_finishes_painted_fish_frame

This basket is original – a weave of grapevine and moss…  it holds plaster ornaments that I gilded, using several variegated patterns of leaf.

Fabulous_finishes_painted_gilded_ornaments

I acquired this pair of ‘fruit art’ from an estate sale.  They were horribly gaudy – painted goldish plastic resin.  I painted them with Caromal Textured Basecoat Candy Apple Red, to give them some ‘uummph’ ,  and then topped that with Reclaim Black Licorice.   I painted the fruit and leaves with our various metallic paints,  and  Caromal’s Antiquing Toner

Fabulous_finishes_painted_plaster_fruit

Not something you see often…

Fabulous_finishes_painted_plaster_fruit_grapes

We had several decorative wooden balls in house, in a state of boring brown… so easy to grab a couple paints and dry brush some color…

These springs are so fun,  I can’t believe they were an integral chair part of past…

Fabulous_finishes_painted_balls

Smaller shelf units, wooden stools, ladders, make great items to decorate with paint, and then display fun wares…  this one was painted with Caromal Textured Basecoat Pumpkin, Botanical Aster, and then stenciled with Caromal Stencil Creme Mother Earth.

It already has found a new home 🙂

But what about the small window over the door?     I used one of our repeat medallion stencils (see the four parts?), and scraped our black plaster on-

Fabulous_finishes_paint_stencil_medallion_dimension_glass

and from the outside..

Which takes me to these pretty young things… This year’s door greeters –

Fabulous_finishes_paint_store_entry_detroit

I had these 2 urn planters from several Christmases ago.  Originally, they were single, prelit, pine ball topiary’s, in a resin urn.   That first year was a huge disappointment – the cords submerged in water, then froze over,  so you couldn’t even get to the wires to fix them.    I brought them to the store after Christmas, plucked the bad stuff out, and used them as decorative store displays…

pine_urn_planter_fall_decor

They took up a lot of room though, and I wanted outdoor planters, so I decided to go BIG on these planters…

I found fake ‘tall boxwood topiary’s  and inserted them into the original pine balls,  making sure they were secure.   Then I went to work adding various flowers and foliage to each base.

Fabulous_finishes_paint_textured_outside_pots_caromal

The paint finish on the urns looked worn – I refreshed it using Caromal Textured Basecoat Paprika, dry brushing black and toner.  Once good and dry I applied a coat of Reclaim Indoor/Outdoor Sealer, since they will be outside.

Fabulous_finishes_paintedpots

The tops needed some whimsy,  I added wood twigs, and green sprigs, and bird nests, and bows… even a few little crystal thinga-majigs on wire…

Fabulous_finishes_studio_topary

Aren’t they fun?

Fabulous_finishes_painted_store_topary

The before frame

I used an oxidizing metal paint with a blue and green patina.  It blended so perfect with the photo…

Fabulous_finishes_painted_verdegris_framed_art

Naturally old world worn looking…

Fabulous_finishes_painted_verdegris_art_frame

Another frame I painted, this original was black – I dry brushed it with Caromal Textured Basecoat Cobblestone, Botanical Willow,  and Gardenia and decorated the inside with an Aged Paper Receipt

Fabulous_finishes_painted_restoration_hardware_frame

Different paints, different textures, different results… use them on their own, or mix them together like I did here –

This original vase was one of my own – a glossy greenish ceramic vase,  now vintage white, and home to a lovely bird house…

I just finished this one, part of a Dixie set I acquired several years ago.  I’ve been saving this one, not sure for what – maybe for just the right time…

Time Flies, Even When You’re Not Having Fun!

April arrived, set to be a busy month.  Easter morning we were on a plane, flying out of Detroit, on our way to a big ship in the ocean, chaperoning our daughter and five friends during spring break.   A year ago we were on our way to Mexico for my son’s spring break…

Milestones like this make me think back, way back….   when did my kids grow up?

It was busy the week before I left –  multiple workshops, and I’d been working on completing this custom painted vanity for a client –

painted_chalk_clay_vanity_voyage_2

They wanted it similar to this piece I’d painted –

DSC_5505

I used American Paint Company Voyage, and Stenciled with various APC colors, and sealed with APC Hardcoat and Topcoat Finish

The week off was a lovely change – the weather was perfect every day – I soaked in the vitamin D and much needed sleep

Even while away from work, I’d find myself noticing things – like this guy’s shirt that looked like a Monahan Botanical paper

I had to quote painting a 15 foot statue (she’s in parts) for a popular yearly music festival music – Electric Forest –  held in Rothbury, Michigan.

???????????????????????????????????????????????

If I get the job, they’d deliver her to my studio in a large crate  – a crate full of body parts 🙂   How cool would that be?   Would love to turn her into an earthy queen of the forest…
